“Knowledge brokers are better together. When we come together as a network, we can lift each other up, build capacity in one another, and empower knowledge brokers at every level of the system to improve education for everyone.”

Steering Committee Member and Chair-Elect Matthew Courtney

Who is a knowledge broker?

Few people actually use the term “knowledge broker”…

Yet, many people engage in this work.
In fact, knowledge brokers can serve in a wide range of job positions and work at different levels of influence.
Knowledge brokers exist across all parts of the education system - in intermediary organizations, research organizations, advocacy groups, foundations, as well as in state education agencies, schools, and districts - and have a wide range of roles and titles.  What makes a knowledge broker a knowledge broker?

A knowledge broker is someone who…

  • Cultivates and sustains relationships between research and practice

  • Makes knowledge accessible and usable

  • Supports research-informed change

  • Centers equity in educational processes, goals, and outcomes
